The Beginning! ( 14/01/17)

As the new teams have been assigned and sorted. the past week has been a process of finding game ideas that evolve around VR. The reason for focusing for VR is due to the vast gap in the market for VR games, and we are hoping to create something that is one of a kind so stand out. Here are a list of Game types that were thought of:

1.Escape room - A horror/creepy game in enclosed spaces with a focus on accurate touch control use, inventory management, and mood setting. At it's most basic, this would be light work for artists+programmers, but it provides a foundation that we can use to improve mechanics  + 'atmosphere' to create an interesting game. For this reason, I'm putting it first.

2.Tower Defence/Running Version/Space Station - All closely related enough to be put under the same number: Simple (if common) mechanics that wouldn't be difficult to program; I'd guess this is a 'safe' option we could take (though since we'll probably need a lot of animation work, I don't know how difficult it would be for the art team).

3. Creative Game - A prototype art tool or 'relaxing' interactable environment: I do like this idea, but unless we can come up with an interesting/working/original idea, I don't think we can go any further (every idea I've thought for this genre has either been unoriginal or practically unplayable).

4.Stealth/time paradox - Said it before, will say it again: We need a working demo to prove that such mechanics are worth taking seriously. Even if it's a standard stealth game, I'm not sure what we could do to make the VR inclusion worthwhile.

5. Rollercoaster Game - Kind of combines the strengths and faults of Tower Defense + Creative Game - If Lawrence is willing to overcome the likely very difficult mechanics challenges, and Patrick/James are willing to do a lot of animating/modelling, then this idea would have merit.

6.Space Harrier - Similar VR idea done before by another team already: Unless we're really scraping the bottom of the ideas barrel, I don't think we should go through with this.

7.Tetris -- Just plain unoriginal, with practically 0 creativity required. There's game ideas that are non-difficult, and then there's game ideas that simply aren't worth the time to follow through. Any ideas you have to improve it: Trust me, they've probably been done before.

After much discussion we agreed upon a real time strategy game inside VR, this was a niche market and had no findings of what we want to achieve. The next step was in finding concept art and settling on  a theme.
